AT THE THRESHOLD OF LIFE FOUNDATION
BEHOLD

THE LANGUAGE OF LOVE & LOSS
There are moments when no words can hold what you feel — when you are loving someone and losing them at the same time.
Sometimes that language is silence.
BEHOLD began with one photograph:
my hand holding my father’s hand after he passed.
I had stayed beside him through the final stretch of his life.
After he was transferred to hospice, I went home briefly.
While I was away, he died.
I rushed back.
I held his still-warm hand.
And I stayed until they came to take him away.
Later, I kept looking at the photograph.
Two hands.
But there was more there.
Do you know what’s in your hand?
When I shared the photograph, people answered with photographs of their own.
One pair of hands became many.
And with the hands came stories.
Love
Grief
Memory
Longing
Caregiving
Goodbyes
Things said
Things never said
Then came the words:
“There was love that passed between those two hands that will never be eradicated.”
Love had already been there.
Before I understood it.
Before anyone named it.
Sometimes we discover something new in what we were already holding.
HAND → HOLD → MEANING → BEHOLD
HAND
What can be seen.
HOLD
What passed between us.
MEANING
What the image cannot contain.
BEHOLD
The recognition of what may have been there all along.
SHOW US WHAT WE CAN SEE.
A hand
A face
A photograph
An object
A place
A moment
THEN, IF YOU CHOOSE, TELL US WHAT WE CANNOT SEE.
The relationship
The memory
The unfinished conversation
The laughter
The caregiving
The ache
The love
You do not have to post to belong.
Read.
Remember.
Listen.
Witness.
What are you still holding?
There is room for what you carry.
